Following the outbreak of the Cold War, a Bulgarian couple, Georgi and Irina, take refuge in a bunker to escape the terrifying consequences of a nuclear holocaust. Georgi falls seriously ill due to radiation, spending his days coughing and delirious. Seeing Georgi’s deteriorating condition and his longing for the life they shared before the war, Irina decides to repair his old guitar so that he can play it again.
